A written intermediate examination is conducted after one year of training time at the earliest. It deals with the knowledge and the skills which are taught according to the subject matters of the framework curriculum in the first year of training.  It provides the opportunity to identify the state of training and to check it. Identified learning gaps can be closed if necessary. It is mandatory to participate in the intermediate examination as it provides the admission requirement for the final examination.

The final examination at the end of the training is conducted by the local examination board of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.  The examination includes three written tests in

• Industrial business operations

• Accounting, Organisation and Data Processing

• Economics and Social Studies
The end of the examination consists of an oral test, called "Fachaufgabe".
